The La Crosse Area Heritage Center opened in November of 2020 and brings the rich stories of the La Crosse area’s history and heritage to community members and visitors in new and meaningful ways.

As a curated museum, cultural center, and gathering place, the La Crosse Area Heritage Center is both seeker and keeper of stories that matter. The Heritage Center provides unique opportunities for visitors to discover the astounding stories of all who came before. Experience the surprising connections between our past, our present, and each other.

Exhibits include: the Ongoing Ho-Chunk Presence; Early White Settlement; Logging on the Black River; Brewing in La Crosse County; Made in La Crosse; and Steamboats, Mussels, and Fishing: Life on the Mississippi.

The kid-friendly Heritage Center offers “minds-on” activities to engage and educate with fun, thought-provoking activities.

A self-guided museum, with special tours available for groups and classes.
