Ice Cream Social 2015 ... It Was a Ball

I'm writing this post from a first person perspective, for a change. This year's Ice Cream Social, held on July 11th, was colorful and a load of fun. I was able to attend for a few hours in the morning and capture some photos, but had some afternoon obligations to attend to, so my apologies for not being able to capture the entire day.

Of course, tours of the Hixon House were happening through the day, but there was a lot of other wonderful stuff happening, including activities and crafts for kids including croquet, gunny sack racing, a cake walk, butter making, balloon animals by Hugs the Clown, face painting, a photo booth, a fish pond and more.

Entertainment, including music and dance, featured the Aarpappella Singing Group, Julie's School of Dance, the Coulee Chordsmen, the Sahara Dessert Dancers and the La Crosse Brass Quintet. There was also a kid's parade. Inside the Hixon House on the Steinway piano, music was provided by Chris Frye, Joe Theisen and Chrys Skifton.

Tons of great food, not the least of which was ice cream and root beer floats, was available for the taking (er ... purchasing, all for a good cause.) I myself enjoyed a wide variety of treats ... and a few hot dogs. I couldn't help myself; it all looked so tempting, after all.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated ... volunteers, vendors, history buffs and attendees alike for helping us enjoy a great day. What a wonderful tradition.  See you next year!   -- Clay Riness
