The La Crosse County Historical Society is hosting an Ice Cream Social at the Hixon House on Saturday, July 11th, 2015 from 11am until 4pm. The Hixon House is located at 429 7th Street North in La Crosse, WI. The Ice Cream Social will include…yes...plenty of ice cream, hot dogs, root beer floats, traditional games (cakewalk, three-legged race, croquet to name a few) with prizes, face painting and balloon animals, and good old fashioned community fun on the grounds of a La Crosse Gem. Tours of the Hixon House will be available throughout the day. The Hixon House was built in 1858 by a prominent lumbar baron and the house contains ninety percent original furnishings. The Italianate configuration and interior portrays an authentic picture of late Victorian life. If you have lived in La Crosse your whole life and have not toured the Hixon House, this is a perfect opportunity for a full day of local history and entertainment.
